Wildlife to benefit from new pond at perins school
The finishing touches to a new wildlife pond at Perins School are being installed this coming week. Pupils have been helping with the digging, installing and landscaping of the pond over the last few days. The pond has been designed by the 'greening group' from the school and has been supervised by the community manager Clive Surrey in turn have been advised by members of the Alresford Greening Campaign - particularly Chris Wilkinson & Jon Cranfield
A small group of people ventured out along the river Arle this evening to experience the natural wonders found underneath the water and above it.
Moth trapping & bat evening
A small band of people came together at St John's Churchyard to look out for bats and set up the moth trap - made from a bucket and a small fluro light - the bats put on a good show at the churchyard while the moth trap shined through the night.
Communities and Local Government has unveiled its draft climate change planning policy statement (PPS). The PPS combines and updates the policy set out in the existing PPS 1 supplement and PPS 22 on renewable energy.
Despite the very damp conditions the Low Carbon Living Fair brought over 20 environmental stalls, a programme of talks and a debate on climate change by the Labour, Lib Dems, Conservative Prospective MP's who were joined by the lead candidate for the Green Party to Alresford.

Alresford Greening Campaign set to join New Alresford's Town Council's Environment Committee
New Alresford Town Council's Environment Committee will be considering a resolution to invite our campaign as an outside body to join their environment committee at their meeting on the 24th February 2010.
The churchyard at St John's has been officially recognised by the Hamphire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC), Hampshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England as a Site Important for Nature Conservation (SINC). You can find out more information about SINC's here
30 residents including local councillors, Prospective MP for the Liberal Democrats and local businesses enjoyed an interactive workshop on Climate Change this evening.
The recent sensationalist media reports about the climate scientists and leaked emails etc has led to people to suggest that global warming is not occurring - at least they believe that humans are not the main cause and that CO2 in the atmosphere has nothing to do with rising global temperatures and so on

Our Low Carbon Living Leaflet is 'condemmed as contentious'
A local resident who maintains a blog about being 'grumpy' and 'old' has taken on himself to point out that our leaflet is wrong.

The planning application for a new eco house at 27 Grange Road has been refused despite the recommendations of the planning officer and 11 letters of support compared to only 7 objecting
The plans of a new ecologically/environmentally designed house for a plot at 27 Grange Road have been displayed at our Low Carbon Living Fair on the 27th February 2010. Since the submission of the original plans the design has been amended to resolve the concerns of the immediate neighbours - regarding the 'flat roof', issues relating to the enjoyment of the neighbour's garden and other matters.
The Application has been refused with only one councillor voting in favour - which seems odd when other planning news will be released soon
