By reducing the energy we use in the home and workplace we can save money and reduce our carbon footprint. Our group aim is to advise and accurately inform residents and businesses about energy conservation. In the future we would like to explore possible alternative sustainable ways of providing power for Alresford...perhaps utilising water mills.
Approximately half the heat is lost from a typical home through walls, windows and roofs. Retrofitting existing housing stock with sufficient insulation is considered one of the most important ways in which the UK can reduce carbon emissions.
The fabric of the building should always be improved first to reduce the energy requirements before considering alternative technologies such as solar , heat pumps ,etc. Insulation and draught exclusion are the easiest ways of achieving this. Heating is the biggest source of carbon emissions for most homes, but there are easy ways to reduce it.
