St John's churchyard in New AlresfordAs a result of the survey work undertaken by Alresford Wildlife and Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) the churchyard has been designated as a County Wildlife Site or a Site Important for Nature Conservation (SINC). The wildlife survey is continuing over 2010 with a number of events which have already taken place this year - moth trapping, evening bat surveys and reptile survey visits. The highest total of slow-worms found on the site in 2010 has been 107 animals just two away from 2009's highest total of 109. Plants within the Churchyard - Ivy Broomrape A new cluster of flowering spikes have been found within the area of the churchyard. The plant is uncommon and has its stronghold in New Alresford It is yellow in colour as it does not have green chlorophyll and lives off its host plant in this case -Ivy Please send in sightings of this plant over June to August
