| Alresford Greening Campaign going into Dormancy |
Sadly I have to inform everyone that I will be standing down as Chair of the Alresford Greening Campaign. I have tried to re establish the group and we had a reasonable meeting earlier this year. As with everything sometimes you just have to say that enough is enough. Therefore the Alresford Greening Campaign will be going into dormancy. I intend to carry on with many different activities in the town working with a variety of different organisations, groups and clubs. I will be concentrating on different projects which will help reduce my personal carbon footprint and I hope to inspire other people to do the same. We have a small amount of money in the bank account and some cash which we will be putting towards a worthwhile project in the town - more details to follow. A big part of my life is now my young family. My eldest boy will be starting School this year and I hope to be involved with the School as I have been with the Pre School and play group. I have so much on my plate with my allotment, my work, being a volunteer at the Eel House, wildlife surveys at the Church and Alresford Pond I just have to stand down and allow someone else take up the challenge of the Alresford Greening Campaign. It is now time for something new a new approach to work with our community to engage with the challenge of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, energy efficiency and also looking towards alternative sources of power for the town. As we know the town council have recently installed solar power on their town offices. This is welcome and is just a small step in reducing the energy costs of the council and also provide a leading example for people to follow. This is where I would like to highlight to people a planning application which has been lodged at Winchester City Council. A hydro turbine has been proposed at the town mill. Bringing back the original use of the town mill to produce power this time to help provide power to the national grid rather than to grind corn etc. Please do have a look at the application on Winchester City Council's Planning pages If you would like to comment on the Application please do so All represeentations should be submitted by the 20th June 2012 In the meantime if people would like to help with taking action to combat Climate Change you can join Winchester Action On Climate Change. I am a member and I would like to organise events. stalls etc on their behalf. Next year we will be having a stall at the Alresford Duck Race.
